The MPSSZ continued to be the most active (non RIS) seismic source zone in the Coastal Plain in 1997. Of the fifty recorded events, thirteen were locatable.
Thirteen events with magnitudes ranging between ML = 0 and ML = 2.5 were located at depths shallower than 10.5 km. The seismicity in 1997 was sparse. The seismicity was widespread in the MPSSZ. Temporally, the seismicity was distributed throughout the year.
