Two hundred thirty-five earthquakes were located near Monticello Reservoir during 1997. They all had a ML less than 2.0 with the largest even having a magnitude ML = 1.9. Most of the events were located within the reservoir between stations MR10 and MR01. Except for two events, all the other depths were 4 km or shallower The monthly distribution of the earthquakes around Monticello Reservoir is given in the following graph:
The activity, which started in mid-December 1996, was most intense in January and July 1997.
